Locksmithery transformation

Transformation of locksmith’s shop

Switch systems and Italian ceramic lights

Location:Stuttgart
Renovation period:2015 – 2017
Architects:Studio InteriorPark
Details:Renovation of a ruin under extremely difficult conditions.

Before the renovation, this loft-like building was the ruin of a locksmith’s shop from 1904 in Stuttgart’s Lehen district. As the workshop building was in a very poor condition to begin with, the renovation was extremely risky with no guarantee of success. The aim was to restore the historic structure while creating a modern living space using only natural and regional materials. Particular emphasis was placed on materials and products that combine aspects of environment-friendliness, solidity and durability. That’s why our switch systems and ceramic lights were chosen for the old locksmith’s shop.

“Our goal in transforming the former locksmith’s shop into a living space was to preserve the charm and character of the existing building. All the products used were selected according to how natural and recyclable they are. THPG’s switches not only fitted perfectly on exposed brick walls and new clay plaster, they also stand for traditional craftsmanship and sustainability.”
