Jumo jointed lamp

Jumo jointed lamp

In 1945, the engineers at the French lighting factory "Société Nouvelle des Etablissements JUMO" designed a folding lamp that could be continuously extended to a height of up to 41 cm by means of three joints, but which, as soon as its light throw was no longer required, could be reduced in size like a tortoise by folding all its extremities back in and concealing them under a hood that also functioned as a shade.

The name JUMO is made up of the two surnames of the company's founders, Yves JUjeau and Pierre and Andre MOunique. The arms and joints are made of solid brass, while the hood and base are made of Bakelite in the black version and Duroplast in the white version. The lamp is assembled by hand from a total of 70 individual parts. The use of solid materials gives the JUMO a stable weight of 1.3 kg.

We took on the ambitious project of creating a faithful JUMO remake from two French enthusiasts and have been producing this lamp ourselves ever since. The only change to the original is for reasons of functionality: the pressure switch in the base. Now, the lamp does not have to be completely folded down before it can be turned off.
